A Virginia fire company is giving an orphaned Assateague colt a new life, days after a vehicle struck and killed his mother on the Maryland side of Assateague Island National Seashore.
“He is part of the herd now, and when released after winter he will roam the island … not as he was born to do but as he was meant to do,” the Chincoteague Volunteer Fire Company said in a statement Monday.
